Dabangg 3: This is why Salman Khan kept Dabangg “open”.
Before the release of his next movie Dabangg 3, actor Salman Khan said that even before the shooting of Dabangg, he knew they could push the idea of the movie further and thus keep the movie “open”.
Speaking to Mid Day, he said, “We left Dabangg with an open end because we thought we could make a [continuation]. At the time, Arbaaz [Khan, producer] asked us if we could not be a little more arrogant about the [fate] of the film by considering a sequel. I said, “If the film works, fine; if not, we can’t do anything”. Luckily, everyone liked it, so we made Dabangg 2 [in 2012].
Talking about the evolution of the idea of Dabangg 3, he said: “I had the idea for the film, and with Arbaaz we continued to improvise on it. We decided to explore Chulbul’s past and that’s how the prequel was born. It’s always fun to shoot [for this franchise]. Now, when I walk on the Dabangg set, I automatically transform from Salman Khan to Chulbul.
Talking about the film and its main character, Salman had already said that Chulbul was originally intended to be a negative character. In a group interview, Salman had said “It was a very obscure film, a small film that had to be made for less than Rs 2 crore. At the time, I was relying on Randeep Hooda and Arbaaz. So Arbaaz said that he was approached for this and that it was a good thing, so listen to him.
