The 2007 film Jab We Met needs no introduction. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s last film as a couple was acclaimed by critics and audiences. The story revolves around Aditya (Shahid Kapoor), who has lost all hope in life, and Geet (Kareena Kapoor Khan), a bubbly and talkative girl who lives her life to the fullest. The two meet on a train ride that changes their lives forever.
While the songs (Mauja Hi Mauja, Yeh Ishq Haaye) remain must-haves in playlists around the world, the dialogues are also recited by fans to this day. Now that it’s been 10 years since its release, here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about the film:
Geet’s character was inspired by a girl Imtiaz Ali met on a bus in Delhi. “Geet was inspired by a girl I met on a bus trip. She was from Delhi and she kept talking and she talked in a way that…. She said silly things, of course, but also very personal things. About not going out when she has her period, and then she would say, main itna kuch bol rahi hoon iska matlab yeh nahin hai ki aap kuch galat socho…. so every thought that came into her head she would say, and there was a certain pure innocence about her…. and that became the summary of Kareena,” she said in an interview with DNA.
Pavan Malhotra initially turned down the role of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s older brother in the film. “I told Imtiaz that I didn’t want to do the role because I wasn’t excited enough for it. But then he told me that he was the fourth or fifth most important character in the film. That’s when I agreed to do it. The role I play has to bring something to the film. I’m not going to play a role that has nothing to do with the plot,” Pavan said in an earlier interview.
