Kal Ho Naa Ho first offered himself to Kareena Kapoor, but came to Preity after she turned him down. After the success of Kal Ho Naa Ho, Karan suffered a setback when his father, filmmaker Yash Johar, died a few months later. The popular tune Kal Ho Naa Ho was composed by Loy while sitting with Nikkhil at the German Bakery in Pune. Nikkhil was humming the song “My Heart will Go On” and expressed a desire to have a melody with a similar effect. That’s when Loy thought of the melody, which he recorded on his cell phone. Later, Shankar Mahadevan and Ehsaan Noorani listened to the song and created the title song of the film.
