Plot details for “The Matrix 4” are under tight wraps, but actor Keanu Reeves dropped some interesting hints about the hotly anticipated sequel during a visit to BBC’s “The One Show” this week. Reeves, who reprises his role as Neo in the fourth installment directed by Lana Wachowski, described the script as “a beautiful, inspiring love story.” The actor added, “It’s a different version of a kind of wake-up call and it has great action. Everything will be revealed.”
The relationship between Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity was a driving force in the narrative of the original “Matrix” trilogy, and both actors have signed on to reprise their roles in the fourth film. From what Reeves hints, the love story between Neo and Trinity could be the backbone of “The Matrix 4.” The original trilogy ended with Neo’s presumed death, or as Reeves said on “The One Show,” “It looked a little terrible for Neo.” The reunion of Trinity and Neo after years apart to avert an evil threat seems like a natural entry point for “The Matrix 4.”
Another revelation about “Matrix 4” came this week from actor Neil Patrick Harris, who mentioned during a visit to SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” that Wachowski may have changed the visual style of the franchise. The actor said, “I think [Lana] has a great, inclusive energy and her style has changed visually from what she was doing before to what she’s doing now.”
Filming on “The Matrix 4” has resumed in Berlin after a months-long hiatus due to the pandemic. Before production was halted, filming on “The Matrix 4” was completed in San Francisco. Warner Bros. plans to release the sequel in theaters on April 1, 2022.
