Sadak 2 Movie Review : This movie by Alia Bhatt-Sanjay Dutt-Aditya Roy Kapur stuck in the 90’s should be avoided because it is boring and awkward. The movie was released on Disney+ Hotstar.
The problem with Sadak 2 is that it is so deeply rooted in the worst aspects of 1990s cinema that all the painful intensity and infernal action of Dutt cannot free it. This is a far cry from the great cinema that Mahesh Bhatt once served us – I’m talking about Naam and Zakhm, Arth and Daddy. Sadak 2 regurgitates the most cliché and inflated chatter that Bollywood has spat out in this and the previous decade.
The themes of death, suicide and mental illness are omnipresent in the film and are treated with the finesse of an elephant in a china store. Sanjay’s character, Ravi, constantly talks about “reunion in paradise” and often tries to act accordingly. The one time his friend manages to get him to the hospital, the doctor asks him what he would do if his house caught fire. His answer is a can of gasoline. Aarya, from Alia Bhatt, who tries to denounce a “Dhongi Baba” named Gyaan Prakash (Makrand Deshpande), is quickly labeled as insane and sent to the same doctor. It is even mentioned that she is threatened with electroshock therapy.
