Ajay Devgn remembers Singham as the film turns 9 years old. “The film honors the spirit of khakhi ki vardi, the warriors of today’s front line
Ajay Devgn became nostalgic when his film Singham was 9 years old. Referring to the film directed by Rohit Shetty, he said that the police are at the forefront of the fight against the corona virus.
He wrote: “#9YearsOfSingham- A film that honors the spirit and bravery of ‘Khakhi ki Vardi’; the warriors of today’s front line”. He also invited fans to review the film, which is now available on Amazon Prime.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham was the first part of his “Police Universe” and a remake of the 2010 Tamil film Singam with Tamil superstar Suriya. The film stars Ajay as a police inspector (SHO), Bajirao Singham and Prakash Raj as the antagonist.
The sequel to the action thriller, Singham Returns, will also be released in 2014. Inspired by the film, a spin-off entitled Simmba was released in 2018, with Ranveer Singh as the incumbent officer, ACP Sangram Bhalerao. The second spin-off, Sooryavanshi, will be released in 2020. It features Akshay Kumar in the lead role, while Ajay and Ranveer reprise their respective characters of Singham and Simmba in a climax sequence.
Ajay has been a fan of the Mumbai police. In April, Ajay tweeted a thank you to the police, writing “#TakingOnCorona @MumbaiPolice”.
In response, the Mumbai Police Twitter manager responded with a witty tweet using a series of Ajay’s movies. Dear “Singham”, I’m just doing what “Khakee” is supposed to do to make things go back to the way they were before – “Once upon a time in Mumbai”! #TakingOnCorona”, we read on the tweet.
